VIDEO games, cameras and MP3 players top the list of unwanted gifts posted on eBay or returned to shops.

"Since Christmas, we've had almost a million new items listed on the site," eBay's Sian Gipslis said. "On Boxing Day alone we had 126,500 new items listed."

The Nintendo Wii was one of the hottest gifts but many of its games are now on the online auction site.

Retailers have also reported big returns of the games. "Interactive toys like the Wii and other electrical items were the main items refunded this year," said Lynn Semjaniv from Target.

She said traditional offenders were also prominent.

"Clothing items are currently fourth on our list of unwanted gifts, with socks, jocks and pyjamas definitely falling under that category."
